WHAT YOU'LL DO ON A TYPICAL DAY:
The Custodial Services Staff position is a full-time, salaried position. The position will work at the Davie Campus in Mocksville NC. The staff member is part of the Physical Plant Services Division and is responsible for assisting with the general custodial services of all buildings and grounds at all campus locations, as well as room setups. The position reports to the Supervisor, Custodial Services and has the following responsibilities:
Performs necessary routine custodial services, including but not limited to: - Emptying waste receptacles - Dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming - Scouring toilets and sinks - Washing windows - Replenishing paper products and hand soap - Cleaning chalkboards/whiteboards and erasers; arranging of classroom furniture; removing markings from walls, restroom stalls, countertops, desks, mirrors, blinds, drinking fountains and fixture - Cleaning floor mats, etc. - Polishing floors; shampooing carpets; cleaning and sanitizing showers, door handles, and hand rails Assists with setup/tear down of rooms, as needed
Assists with outside duties on the campus grounds – including leaf collection, tree trimming and various other yard duties.
Assists with cleaning campus vehicles.
Assists with maintaining cleaning records, including MSDS sheets
Utilizes proper cleaning materials and utilizes safe work practices
Assists with college sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices
Assists College delivery and messenger services, as required, between all campuses and centers
Attends department and College meetings as appropriate
Performs other duties as assigned that support College initiatives
Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College.
YOUR ATTRIBUTES:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Prior experience and skills in custodial services
Ability to work effectively in a team environment, working well with others
Ability to utilize a customer-focused approach in performing duties
Ability to accurately receive information and make sound decisions
Ability to be self-directed and to complete work independently
Effective interpersonal, oral and written communications with fluency in the English language
Ability to manage multiple projects
Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license
Preferred:
Commercial custodial experience
Experience in custodial services in a higher education setting
Basic computer skills

ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information, analyze data, make assessments, and exercise good judgment to make decisions; possess ease of mobility throughout areas of campus; and effective use of all forms of communication. Must also be able to lift weights up to 65 pounds regularly (job requires physical ability to carry 55 pounds), and be able to climb steps, ladders and work from elevations; endurance to lift, pull, transport and handle equipment and materials.
