Description
To coordinate all aspects of the athletic academic mentoring program. To assess student-athletes' academic abilities. To ensure successful matriculation through the university course of study by developing and administering comprehensive plans to assist and accommodate student-athletes who are gifted learners or those who exhibit learning difficulties/disabilities. To maintain confidential files for student-athlete diagnostic testing and academic performance. To adhere to all institution, conference and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations. To report all known NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA policies and guidelines.
Experience:
- One or more years of experience working in teaching/counseling/advising college student-athletes while working with coaches, faculty, support staff, and administrators in an intercollegiate athletic department at the NCAA Division I level.
- Strong administrative skills in initiating and implementing programs; skills in personnel management and public relations.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and regulations.
- N4A membership.
(Salary Range: $40,000 - $45,000)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling or in a related field preferred.
Preferred:
- Presenting information clearly and concisely to individuals, small, and large groups.
- One (1) year of demonstrated experience in a higher education or a high school setting (academic advising, student services, student affairs, student support and/or student retention efforts).
- Experience utilizing learning strategies and developing academic intervention strategies at a university or high school level to enhance learning for academically under-prepared students and students with education-impacting disabilities.
Abilities/Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
- Sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of educational and social developmental needs of student-athletes.
- Familiarity with academic assessment tools, current research, and learning strategies.
- Ability to multi-task and work under tight timelines.
- Knowledge of disability regulations and laws associated in higher education.
- Strong commitment to academic and personal integrity.
