Assistant Professor - Tenure Track/Tenured Faculty Is Dept in Artificial Intelligence (AI) And Data Science (DS)
Expected to establish strong sponsored research programs, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advise Ph.D. students, and be involved in service to the college, the university, and the global academic community.
The Department of Information Science invites applications for multiple tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at the Assistant Professor and Associate Professor levels in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science (DS).
While all competitive applications in these areas will be considered, we particularly encourage:
AI applicants focused on use-inspired research, human-AI teaming, neuro-symbolic methods, human language technologies, and ethical AI; and
DS applicants focused on research in scalability, cloud-based technologies and crowd work, deep learning frameworks, and on data engineering for and with machine learning.
Applications are encouraged from candidates with interest in using their focus area(s) to solve socially relevant problems at the intersection of computer, data, and information sciences that are synergistic, mutually supportive, and leverage the strengths of our College, University, and greater geographic region. Within cover letters, candidates should justify how their research interests are complementary to current research of the department.
Essential Functions
Successful candidates will possess technical expertise appropriate for their areas of research and comfortable and committed to working in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. Applicants will be expected to have established or describe how they plan to establish a high-quality, high-impact sponsored research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and advise and mentor Ph.D. students. Tenure-track faculty are expected to provide service to the Department and University commensurate with rank.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. or Doctorate, in Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field by the time of appointment, as well as a record of high-quality scholarly activities. 0 - 20 years experience. Candidates must be able to work with individuals a cross a spectrum of disciplines both internal and external to the College. The Department is particularly interested in individuals with a history of promoting diversity through their teaching, research, and service. Applicants for senior positions are expected to have demonstrated exceptional leadership in large-scale, multidisciplinary research programs, and professional or industry experience is valued.
