Departmental Overview
Integrative Biology strives to uphold the highest professional standards of scholarship in our contributions to the research, teaching, and public service missions of the University. We believe academic strength comes not only from our integrative approach to the study of biology, but also from having a faculty whose breadth of scientific interests and methodological approaches span dimensions across the biological sciences. Our teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills. We nurture these skills across a wide spectrum of courses - from large enrollment courses to small classroom, laboratory, and field settings - where students and faculty are partners in discovery. Training today's students to become tomorrow's physicians, educators, researchers, and citizens is central to the mission of UC Berkeley's Department of Integrative Biology.
This role is responsible for program coordination of a NSF-funded post baccalaureate training program across UC Berkeley, UCSF, San Francisco State University and Cal State East Bay. This multi-institution training network will bring in 10 participants per year for 3 years and offer them - and their mentors - a unique full time research experience and training in the Microbiome Sciences. We are searching for a coordinator who will work directly with the network team to oversee active recruitment and selection of participants in a way that fully reflects the program's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and participant success during their term.

Responsibilities
- Coordinates recruitment of RAMP postbac participants in collaboration with PIs every Spring for three years; Coordinates selection of RAMP postbac participants in collaboration with PIs and network committee every Spring for three years; Coordinates matching of RAMP participant with network mentors; Supports RAMP postbac participants in their relocation to the Bay Area in early Fall each year. This includes some of the following functions: finance, payroll, human resources, communications, marketing, informational technology, event planning and implementation. Provides overall support for functions, programs and the organizational unit, including completing HR forms, etc. forhiring program participants and mentors.
- Coordinates stipend payments to participants and their graduate student and postdoctoral mentors, as well as transfer of research funding to the relevant laboratories; Leads in the planning and execution of events and training sessions, including room bookings, transportation across institutes, and writing/sending of invitations. Assists in planning programs and events, invites and tracks participants, creates and monitors budgets, organizes housing, meals, and evening events and runs registration tables. Provides administrative support for projects by arranging meetings, travel, locations, keeping minutes, and engaging in communications with participants.
- Assists with data collection regarding participant engagement and event success in collaboration with external assessor, The Mark; Coordinates the alumni network as participants complete the program and leads follow up communications.Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data, and prepares reports. These include financial, student, program participant, research, performance, and other data; prepares reports or analyses of operational activities, participation, student, postdoc, faculty, and administrator engagement and performance in training network activities.
- Coordinates the website for the program, with information about application deadlines and program aims.
- Assists with development of new proposals, including research, writing, preparation of budgets, graphics, data collection and organization, editing, and presentation.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
- Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

This is a part-time (20 hours per week) career position eligible for full UC benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The full hourly range for this position classification is $28.83 - $50.53 (stepped rates).
