Position Information
The Coordinator of the Graduate Writing Center is responsible for all aspects of the daily functions and special events in the Graduate Writing Center. The Coordinator supervises the lead coordinator as well as any auxiliary staff, i.e. part-time writing consultants. The Coordinator also maintains the master calendar, works schedules, and appointments in the GWC. In consultation with staff, the Coordinator determines what resources are needed and supervises the creation and updating of those resources. The Coordinator is responsible for the maintenance of the GWC website as well as the web-based appointments system that students use to create and manage their appointments. The Coordinator also conducts one-on-one consultations, requested workshops in departments, and implements writing support programming. The GWC Coordinator is also an integral part of the GradSuccess Team. As such, the GWC Coordinator is also responsible for coordination, planning, and scheduling for the summer programming, provides mentorship for the GradSuccess graduate student employees, provides administrative support for data analysis and reporting for all events, and offers administrative and logistical support for all of GradSuccess. The budgeted salary for this position is up to $62,400

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
Demonstrated experience managing a programming or staffing budget
Develops knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific).
Experience in one or more of the following areas: teaching composition, working in a writing center, tutoring, or other equivalent practice in explaining English grammar and academic composition rules.
Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.
Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills.
Knowledge of learning theories and training models.
Problem solving skills.
Develops knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students.
Experience providing qualitative and quantitative assessment of academic programs
Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Skills in judgment and decision-making.
Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Training/certification and experience in teaching English to speakers of other languages.
Two years experience in a writing center.
Specialized knowledge of graduate student writing including, but not limited to, dissertation writing in the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and arts fields.
