We are looking for a Part-Time Registered Nurse to work in our ambulatory surgery center, circulating pain management procedures in the treatment room. This position would typically be three days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The ideal work schedule!
No evenings/nights, weekends or holidays! Excellent working environment, including part-time benefits! Must be personable, energetic, flexible, possess strong clinical nursing skills and be an enthusiastic learner. Previous experience in critical care (ICU, ER, etc.), surgery setting (operating room or recovery room) or pain management desired, but not required. We are willing to train the right person. Required Skills:
- To utilize specialized nursing knowledge and discriminative judgment while giving direct and indirect patient care.
- Performs assessment of patient for specific nursing care needed.
- Plans care to ensure patient safety.
- Demonstrates and follows appropriate standards for cleaning and sterilization techniques.
- Directs and assists in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures.
- Supervises and directs the activities of non-professional personnel as necessary.
- Assists physician during procedure.
- Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of intravenous therapy, medication administration and effects, patient assessment, airway management, patient teaching, emotional/social support of patients and families and all other necessary clinical competencies.
- Communicates extensive and/or complicated medical history with the physician.
- Keeps safety of patient, self, and others a primary concern at all times; acts appropriately in an emergency situation.
- To perform the tasks delegated to the "circulating" role.
- Perform interventions necessary to ensure patient's procedure is performed on the correct site, side and level.
- Checks room for needed supplies and prepares room for specific patient and procedure.
- Assists in admission of patient to treatment room and checks patient record for appropriate pre-op preparation and procedures (i.e. lab, x-ray, appropriate consents).
- Completes documentation for records, laboratory requisitions, and patient chart including medications and physician orders.
- Directs proper care of instruments, supplies, cleaning and storage of equipment.
- Supervises and assists with the proper, safe positioning of the patient.
- Identifies, labels, and cares for all laboratory specimens properly.
- Secures emergency equipment and supplies as needed.
- Controls the general "tone" of the treatment room.
- Assists with the administration of conscious sedation agents under the direction of the physician, and monitors the patient accordingly.
- Protect patient's rights, dignity and privacy.
- Documents actions in medical record completely and accurately in a timely manner.
- To perform the tasks of the "technician" role.
- Sets up treatment room with all necessary equipment and supplies.
- Maintains field throughout the procedure.
- Performs clean up following procedures, as well as general housekeeping duties.
Required Experience:
The successful candidate must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and be currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Missouri. A minimum of one year of experience in acute care, pain management or surgical setting preferred. Experience in cardiac monitoring preferred. The successful candidate must have the ability to determine priorities, plan and direct patient care and must possess the ability to handle stress. Must be able to analyze, prioritize, problem solve and make decisions quickly and calmly. Must be able to work independently, as well as within a team. Must have thorough knowledge of nursing theory and excellent patient assessment skills. Must present professional image and excellent public relations skills. Must be willing to take responsibility and maintain accountability. Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills. Must be flexible. Requires respect for the confidential nature of the work environment.
