Description:
This is a full-time, non-tenure track position, classified as EPA Non-Teaching and reports to the Director of SAAEP. The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day operations and support of the Center for Academic Excellence-SAAEP and will coordinate academic support for student athletes on assigned teams. The individual in this position will be responsible for design and implementation of academic support plans for student-athletes and will monitor their academic progress. Specifically, this person will: Assist the Director with coordination and delivery of student development workshops; Provide monitoring of daytime, evening, and some weekend study hour requirements; Assist in facilitating objective-based study strategies; Complete and maintain accurate and confidential student files; Maintain and report weekly study hour attendance; Provide consistent communication with coaches; Monitor and confirm advising appointment scheduling; Assist student-athletes with course selection while collaborating with Faculty Advisors; Follow-up on student referrals to academic support services (CAE Tutorial Services, Supplemental Instruction, University Writing Center); Collaborate with the CAE Tutorial Coordinator to schedule and review tutorial sessions; Attend SAAEP meetings; Support rules and policies governing SAAEP as a program within the CAE unit; Other duties as assigned. Must be self-motivated and be able to work a flexible schedule. This position requires non-traditional hours and some travel. The individual must adhere to the State of North Carolina, NC A&T, NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations and policies.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is a full service academic support unit which offers a wide-range of services and programs that promote student success, including academic advising, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and student-athlete academic support. The unit collaborates with various academic units to reinforce academic expectations and address factors that affect student success, retention and graduation.

Requirements:
Master's degree in counseling, education, student development, athletic administration or related field; Familiarity with NCAA eligibility rules and progress toward degree; Experience in academic advisement, student recruitment, or development of retention strategies at the collegiate-level; Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds; Ability to work independently and multi-task; Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information with discretion and according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines; Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
2 or more years as a full-time employee; one or more semester participating or working in an athletics program; Experience in working with at-risk populations; Experience in the use of technology to accomplish academic or administrative tasks, specifically GradesFirst and Banner system; Higher education experience.
