DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research and provide public service. In support of the University's mission, IET will deliver an infrastructure of technological services appropriate to the requirements of the campus community.
The Communication Director works closely with Information and Educational Technology's (IET) senior leadership team, key advisory groups, senior campus administrators, other inuential decision makers, and the community to enact and communicate regarding the CIO's priorities and initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Vice Provost and Chief Information Ocer (CIO) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position provides executive-level leadership, oversight, consultation, and coordination in the areas of strategic, analytical, and tactical communications. Responsible for planning, researching, developing, writing, editing and producing clear and compelling communications, developing communication processes and standards, and analyzing and implementing communication strategies in support of the oce of the CIO, IT services, projects, and initiatives. Directs communication programs to deliver strategic communication plans and strategies that have critical impact on the organization and the university. Selects, trains, manages, guides, directs, motivates and evaluates professional communication staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience in communication, marketing, public relations or associated field.
- Experience in integrated communication, marketing, planning, media, and communication techniques.
- Experience selecting, training, evaluating, leading, directing, guiding and motivating subordinate staff.
- Experience creating, developing and implementing comprehensive long and short-term strategic communications plans.
- Experience advising and consulting with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.
- Analytical skills to understand complex data and theoretical concepts in a wide variety of disciplines and to synthesize and distill such information into concise messaging for professional or lay audiences.
- Written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening, and political acumen skills including skills to recognize, and use correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in communication, marketing, education, journalism, e-media or another relevant field.
- Experience leading a communication or public relations program for a college, university, government agency, information technology, or other complex knowledge-based organization.
- Experience in a full-service public relations, marketing or advertising agency or communication service bureau.
- Experience in the management of financial resources, budget planning and prioritization of projects, production and other communication activities.
- Writing and editing skills to use language accurately and creatively in a variety of formal and casual registers and styles, including academic, technical, news, hypertext, and marketing styles.
- Knowledge of the integrated use of communication media, including print, broadcast, Web, direct mail, e-mail, advertising, social media, etc. for generating and distributing information, motivating target audiences, building relationships, and gathering feedback.
- Knowledge of academic policies and sensitivity to legal issues.
