Applications are invited for an Assistant Professor in Rangeland Sciences in the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center, Union Experiment Station (Union, Oregon) of Oregon State University, either as a 0.75 FTE, 12-month, tenure track position or a 1.0 FTE, 9-month, tenure track position; to be determined at the discretion of the College of Agricultural Sciences Dean.
The Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center (EOARC) is composed of two stations, Burns and Union, that together comprise one of the largest experiment stations within OSU's College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS), encompassing over 3,200 acres of base property, over 21,000 acres of associated federal grazing lands, and 500 beef cows (EOARC Union alone has over 2,600 acres of base property, 5,500-acre forest grazing allotment within the Starkey Experimental Forest, and 200 beef cows).
The person in this position will be expected to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate student research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in service needs.
Tenure for this position will be within the Animal and Rangeland Sciences Department (AnRS) on the OSU main campus in Corvallis. This position will provide instruction as part of the joint CAS AnRS and OSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Program (EOANRP) at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) in La Grande, OR. EOU has approximately 4,000 students. La Grande has a population of about 12,500 and is located about 260 miles east of Portland, OR, and 170 miles northwest of Boise, ID, the closest major cities.
The mission of the AnRS is to serve current and future communities through education, research, and outreach by providing science-based animal and rangeland information. Its vision is ecologically, socially, and economically resilient communities and healthy landscapes in synergy with humans, animals, and rangelands for current and future generations.
The position fulfills a critical need to bridge animal and rangeland sciences disciplines and will provide expertise in rangeland grazing systems that work at the interface of animal nutrition/livestock production and rangeland ecosystem stewardship that incorporates and addresses sustainable production of ecosystems goods and services (livestock, water, biodiversity, wildlife, etc.). The position works across units and programs including within College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS), College of Forestry (COF), AnRS, EOARC, EOANRP, and Extension. This position may teach across several modalities, with opportunities to develop shot-term intensive field-based experiential learning courses.

Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.
Requirements :
Ph.D. in Rangeland Ecology and Management or closely related field such as plant ecology, botany, landscape ecology, animal science, natural resource management or weed science.
Research experience focused on grazing / livestock production within rangeland or dry forest systems.
Evidence of ability to generate scholarly accomplishments in rangeland ecology and management, plant ecology, landscape ecology, weed science, or closely related field.
Demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom, extension, or other formal and non-formal educational settings.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Proven experience and commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq.
