Assistant Lecturer of Urban Planning and Community Economic Development Specialist

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning within the Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning is hiring an Assistant Lecturer of Urban Planning and Community-Economic Development Specialist. The position is for a full-time contract faculty member, starting fall semester, August 2023, and renewable for the 2024-2025 academic year upon favorable intermediate review. The Department is looking for applicants with interest in the area of community-economic development, who may also teach physical planning and design in our unique undergraduate planning degree program. Applicants with a wide variety of areas of expertise are invited to apply. Areas of teaching and research specialization may include but are not limited to economic development topics (workforce development, firm retention and attraction) and community development (community development corporations, organizing, neighborhoods-based revitalization), and/or real-estate development. Applicants interested in C-ED in the context of shrinking cities would be an ideal fit for the program. Applicants should have or be near completion of a PhD in Urban Planning, or an allied field. Applicants with a master’s degree and significant professional, teaching or research experience will also be considered.

Position Function: Major responsibilities will include teaching an undergraduate studio class (six hours loading), along with other required and elective courses. Areas of teaching and research specialization may include but are not limited to economic development topics (workforce development, firm retention and attraction) and community development (community development corporations, organizing, neighborhoods-based revitalization), and/or real-estate development.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Urban Planning or related field from an accredited college or university by date of appointment.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Urban Planning or allied field by date of appointment, AICP, teaching experience; Evidence of excellence in research and teaching on community-economic development topics.
