The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) in the College of Letters & Science (https://cae.las.wisc.edu/) provides an enriching, inclusive community and engaging academic support for ~400 students admitted each year. In particular, CAE supports students from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in higher education, including Black, LatinX, Native Nations, Southeast-Asian, first-generation and low-income students through proactive academic advising, peer tutoring programs, community-building, wellness events, mentoring, and access to High Impact Practice Programs.

The CAE Academic Advisor serves as primary advisor to a caseload of CAE students and will provide holistic, high-touch advising as part of a committed team of student service professionals who demonstrate care, patience, and authenticity in their engagement with students. They empower students to set and meet high expectations and they are expected to exhibit the CAE values of community, student-centeredness, social justice and advocacy in their work. CAE Advisors also contribute to the overall development of students by creating and organizing programming that spans the entire academic year. They work in partnerships with a variety of offices across campus that support the academic, co-curricular, and financial well-being of students. They also work in collaboration with L&S Academic Advising Services to provide advising to L&S students at new student orientation (SOAR).

• 10% Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
• 10% Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
• 15% Implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
• 10% Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
• 5% Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
• 20% Proactively engages students as needed
• 10% Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
• 20% Coordinate CAE projects, committees, and/or student staff to holistically support students
  and contribute to the CAE mission

Required
Bachelor's Degree

Required:
-One or more years of experience working with individuals in a developmental or supporting manner (e.g., advising/student services, teaching, counseling, human resources, coaching).
-One or more years of experience working with diverse professional staff and students.
-Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice, understanding of the systemic barriers at the pre-collegiate and collegiate levels, and a student-centered approach.
-Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
-Ability to work as a member of the CAE team and build collaborations with campus partners.
-Ability to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends are necessary).

Preferred:
-Facilitation skills that can be used during group advising sessions, presenting at orientation or CAE events, facilitating planning meetings, etc.
-Experience and demonstrated success working with college students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education including first generation college students, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and BIPOC students.
-Demonstrated ability to engage in holistic advising, including transition to university, financial literacy, wellness, connection with resources.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
