Salary Range: $73,0000 - $160,000. The position on the scale will be based on years of teaching experience and education.
The Dalton School, a K-12 independent, coeducational school located in Manhattan, is consistently recognized as one of the top independent day schools in the nation. It has a total enrollment of about 1,300 students and a faculty and staff of approximately 350.
The Dalton School History Department seeks a full-time, high school history teacher beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. The candidate who fills this position will join an exceptionally collegial department with a strong commitment to collaboration, pedagogical innovation, and intellectual risk-taking. Candidates must have a passion for working with and teaching adolescents, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, an ability to meet deadlines, a capacity to multitask and prioritize workload, and superior interpersonal and technological skills.
Responsibilities:
- Teach multiple sections of high school history
- Participate collaboratively on the departmental level developing curriculum and lesson plans
- Provide support and enrichment for students through the Lab system
- Engage actively in departmental and school-wide diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism efforts
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred
- Relevant teaching experience required; high school teaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to equitable and inclusive practices, with respect to pedagogy, curriculum, literary interests, and/or community engagement
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work well with a team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Facility with and willingness to learn educational technologies and learning management software
