Position Summary
This is a 5/5 (100% FTE) position, teaching Spanish at several grade levels.
Responsibilities and Duties

Model Lasallian/Vincentian charisms;
-
Support SHC's mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes;

In collaboration with World Language Department colleagues, and per department goals (see https://www.shcp.edu/academics/category/world-language):
-
Following the National Standards for Foreign Language Education, facilitate development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Spanish;
-
Encourage students to gain experiential knowledge of other cultures, make connections across disciplines, explore the natures of language and culture by comparisons with their native language and culture, and actively participate in bilingual communities, beginning with the World Language classroom;
-
Design and implement standards-based learning to facilitate critical thinking and mastery of essential skills and understandings as determined by the level learning team;
-
Provide regular and varied formative and summative assessments to demonstrate achievement and to facilitate students' ability to understand their progress toward learning targets;
-

Maintain an interactive and timely learning environment, in both physical and virtual learning spaces;
-
Communicate consistently with students, parents, and school personnel;
-
Keep current and complete electronic grading and attendance records;
-
Participate in the school's Advisory program and cocurricular activities;
-
Engage in professional learning as part of being a reflective practitioner, integrating best and next teaching practices, and continuing the school's commitment to excellence;

Actively participate in SHC's strategic initiatives to strengthen meaningful diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices, especially strategies to support equitable learning, culturally responsive teaching, social emotional learning, and universal design for learning (as stipulated by the DEIB strategic plan adopted by SHC Board of Regents in 2021);

Participate in the four-year New Faculty Professional Development and Support Program;
-
Engage in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools through their formational programs.
Required Qualifications
-
Undergraduate degree in Spanish;
-
Teaching credential or working towards it; single-subject teaching credential in Spanish
preferred; -
Experience working with high school students;
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively to promote student learning.
Desired Qualifications
-
Master’s Degree;
-
Experience teaching in a Catholic high school setting;
