The Ella Cline Shear School of Education at SUNY Geneseo seeks applicants for a tenure-track position for social studies education methods for our undergraduate dual certification childhood programs, Early Childhood/Childhood and Childhood with Special Education.
The School of Education has a long and rich history of preparing teachers who are knowledgeable, skilled in their instructional practices, passionate about their work, and motivated to provide leadership within their profession. Our growing programs prepare teachers early in their program in diverse field experiences throughout the region. Our candidates are successful and have a 99% pass rate on the New York State Teacher Certification examinations and a high rate of employment after graduation. All teacher certification programs of the School of Education are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The School of Education offers undergraduate programs leading to initial teacher certification in Early Childhood and Childhood, Childhood with Special Education, and Adolescence Education and graduate program in Reading and Literacy (B-12).
Our priority is teaching excellence: We seek someone with a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts setting who is prepared to teach both introductory courses and advanced courses in their area/s of expertise. A commitment to, and experience in, working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds is essential. Primary responsibilities for this position include:
- Teaching undergraduate coursework in elementary social studies methods in the dual certification childhood programs, such as Social Studies and Curriculum Integration course
- Coordinating the embedded field experience in the social studies methods course with partner school district(s)
- Building and cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships with our field experience and student teaching partner schools/districts and supervising teacher education candidates in the field
- Providing academic advisement to undergraduate Early Childhood/Childhood and Childhood with Special Education students
- Participating in assessment and accreditation activities and other department service
- Contributing to the college and community, and/or provide professional service
- Conducting research and other scholarly work in area(s) of expertise
Minimum qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Social Studies Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field, or ABD with designated completion by time of appointment
- Knowledge of research-based practices and strategies in social studies education
- Knowledge of K-6 social studies curricula and standards
- A minimum of three years of successful K-6 teaching experience
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonginess in the classroom and workplace
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues
- Evidence of or established track record of scholarly social studies research and/or presentations
