Job Duties:
The College of Education at East Carolina University invites applications and nominations for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Literacy Studies, English Education, and History Education. For this full-time 12-month position, we are seeking a dynamic and innovative leader with exemplary leadership, administrative, personnel management, and supervisory skills. Responsibilities include facilitating the development and attainment of departmental goals with a clear vision for the Department's future https://education.ecu.edu/lehe. Those responsibilities include, but are not limited to: decision-making; negotiating teaching assignments, research, and service loads for faculty; providing leadership on diversity, equity, and social justice so as to foster anti-discriminatory practices and build cultural proficiency across the Department; evaluating faculty and staff; providing leadership to the success of established collaborative partnerships and innovative foresight to the establishment of new partnership opportunities; collaborating with faculty within the Department and across the college regarding curricular and related programmatic matters; managing budgets; involvement in the hiring process of faculty and staff; and advocating for the Department in college and university issues/contexts.

Minimum Education/Experience:
The candidate must possess a Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in Reading Education, Literacy Education, Literacy Studies, English Education, History Education, or Curriculum and Instruction. Rank will be Associate or Full Professor with salary commensurate to qualifications. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience. Qualifying degrees must be received from an appropriately accredited institution.
