Description:
The ideal candidate will be an empathetic teacher or educational therapist who has extensive Making Math Real training and experience teaching 4th - 8th grade Math classes. He or she understands dyslexic learners and the importance of supporting the social/emotional needs of all students.
Responsibilities:
- To create and maintain a climate of trust and positive regard for students
- To use Making Math Real methodology to teach 4th - 8th grade Math
- To provide standards-based, instruction in all classes
- To provide differentiated instruction for small groups
- To support the social/emotional needs of our students by implementing SEL or Mindfulness curriculum throughout the class
- To present content in a multi-sensory, explicit fashion while providing scaffolding where needed
- To maintain ongoing parent correspondence
- To accurately assess each student's progress and complete quarterly Progress Reports
- To collaborate with the school staff (Learning Specialist, Homeroom Teachers, Curricular Lead, Operations Manager and Head of School) and parents to tailor instruction best suited for the individual needs of that child
Attendance at weekly staff meetings, Back To School Night, and open houses is expected and required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Two years of formal classroom experience working with children
- Proficiency with technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience teaching students that fit our profile
- Single Subject Teaching Credential in Math
- Multiple-Subject Credential
- Masters of Arts in Special Education (Mild/Moderate)
- Masters degree in Math
- Training in Making Math Real through Pre-Algebra
- Training in social-emotional learning and/or mindful practices
