Davidson-Davie Community College is looking for an IT professional to fill the role of Network Administrator.  The primary duties of the network administrator are to ensure the college’s network infrastructure is operating optimally and securely.  This position is responsible for but not limited to:

• Network equipment administration and configuration
• Backup and recovery of designated systems
• Daily administration of applications in support of the college network
• Administering on premise as well as cloud based systems and infrastructure
• Maintaining vendor relationships
• Support contract administration

 The network administrator should have a clear understanding of TCP/IP protocols and services as well as both wired and wireless standards.  The ideal candidate will understand how to configure, monitor and maintain network equipment and peripheral connectivity.  The network administrator must understand and adhere to industry standard security procedures at all times.  The network administrator will see projects to completion through collaboration with co-workers, consultants, and support contracts.  The network administrator should be able to communicate with users with various levels of knowledge.

The network administrator will administer a number of systems and on a daily basis perform tasks to support campus connectivity through those systems.  The following task are performed on a typical day:

• Monitor site-to-site and campus bandwidth for spikes and anomalies
• Troubleshoot network connectivity

  2. Wireless
  3. Virtual private network (VPN)
• Respond to assigned support tickets
• Review systems for improvements and/or new code enhancements
• Monitor backups and mitigate issues
• Monitor support system alerts and mitigate issues
• Update network and end user support documentation
• Gather quotes for new projects
• Meet with vendors to define system requirements
• Perform activities to support network security initiatives
• Deploy network equipment
• Monitor cooling and battery backup systems and mitigate issues
• Pursue new knowledge through training, system deployment and personal interest
• Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings
• Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College.
