Annunciation Orthodox School (AOS) seeks a committed and engaging 4th Grade Social Studies Teacher who demonstrates proficiency in both progressive and traditional pedagogies while consistently utilizing child-centered techniques. Reports to: Head of Early Childhood & Lower School
Status: Salaried/Exempt
Start Date: August 1, 2023
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, additional time as needed for after-school meetings and professional development.
Responsibilities:
- Model a love of reading and lifelong learning
- Engage students in building a culture of collaboration and reflection
- Challenge students to analyze and comprehend informational texts and primary source materials (books, articles, digital sources)
- Inspire great student writing in response to various types of text
- Guide students as they integrate reading, writing, research and technology skills to complete research projects
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials that reflect an understanding of various learning styles
- Create lesson plans based on sound, research-based methods of instruction
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of elementary students
- Implement a classroom management style that aligns with the school’s mission and culture
- Develop engaging formative and summative assessments along with other experiences to assess student learning
- Provide effective and supportive feedback to students and parents through a variety of means, including face-to-face conversations, phone calls, emails, and conferences
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders within the school community
- Integrate technology into the curriculum to strengthen the teaching/learning process
- Participate in school events, community service projects, and an overnight fourth grade trip
- Actively engage in a robust assortment of faculty professional development opportunities offered to AOS teachers
- Fulfill other duties as requested
Qualifications:
- Actions and values that align with the AOS Mission
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Teaching certificate preferred
- Minimum three years experience teaching
- Experience using literacy strategies to build and assess student reading comprehension skills, written comprehension skills, and critical thinking
- Knowledge of child development and of research-based practices for effective elementary instruction
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents
- Demonstrated knowledge of and love of working with children with great energy, playfulness, and understanding
