Position Description:
Successful Mountain Academy faculty are committed to building strong relationships with colleagues, students, and families; engaging in collaborative and creative teamwork while also taking initiative to work autonomously; and joyfully bringing their passion for teaching to our students. We have a commitment to learning with and through our local and global communities, and in using interdisciplinary project-based learning as a teaching strategy to deepen the learning for our students.
Successful candidates will:

Have at least 3-5 years of teaching experience in a classroom using best pedagogical practices.

Enjoy a variety of learning environments, including spending a lot of time outdoors in all seasons and all types of weather, engaging in animal chores, and participating in shared care and responsibility, alongside students, for cleaning and maintaining our learning spaces.

Develop a positive, joyful, and structured classroom environment that engages and motivates students to achieve their fullest potential.

Demonstrate a commitment to student-centered learning

Foster meaningful relationships with students, families, and faculty

Implement school-wide curricula and also develop curricula and interdisciplinary projects with student input.

Develop creative lessons that correlate with our curriculum, goals, and objectives

Incorporate Social Emotional Learning lessons into daily practice

Implement restorative practices as part of an intentional classroom management plan

Plan, execute, and actively participate in our extensive Journeys programming

Facilitate experiential learning in on-campus, off-campus, and overnight field studies programs related to interdisciplinary project-based learning, place-based sustainability and ecology studies, community service, and community-building initiatives.

Use assessments, classroom performance, and other tools to accurately monitor student progress and drive instruction

Demonstrate a collaborative and growth mindset as a teacher and professional

Collaborate with colleagues in various capacities, including planning, evaluating student growth, mentoring, and peer observations

Possess the cultural competency necessary for working with a diverse population in an equitable and inclusive community

Demonstrate the flexibility to use technology in support of student learning and other professional responsibilities

Communicate well, both in writing and verbally, with colleagues, students, and families in a small community setting

Model a culture of respect and flexibility along with continuous learning to challenge and support students

Division-specific responsibilities may include being a generalist teacher (teaching literacy, math, social studies, and science) in Lower School, or teaching a minimum of four sections of classes in one curricular area (Middle and Upper School), serving as an advisor for a group of students, teaching an elective.

Other responsibilities include attending regular faculty meetings, professional learning communities, in-service days, and other supervision duties as
assigned
Qualifications:
- Strong speaking and written communication skills
- At least 3 years of experience in relevant field preferred
- Master's degree preferred
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and Google Apps
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituents
- Ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front and backcountry settings
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Primarily indoors in classroom setting
- Stretches of time outdoors in all weather, including extreme temperatures and arid conditions
- Able to drive 15-passenger vans & minibusses with participants
- Able to write / type / communicate
- Able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours
- May be expected to work evenings, weekends, or overtime to support special programs/events
- May require occasional overnight travel by car / bus / van / airplane
