Salary Details:
Moravian Academy is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and innovative history teacher. This teacher will be responsible for implementing history curriculum, including AP, and potentially Language Arts courses in the Upper School as a one year sabbatical replacement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver at least two courses, and four sections, within a curriculum that includes World I and II, American (AP), European (AP), and thematic electives.
- Facilitate hands-on exploration, student collaboration and problem-solving.
- Create meaningful partnerships with parents and families, including regular communications through school-supplied online tools, emails, and phone calls.
- Assess and provide feedback to students and parents during comment and grading periods.
- Assume duties including, but not limited to, serving as an advisor to a small group of students, taking on a fifth responsibility, and leading an activity.
- Participate in professional collaboration, including committee work, chapel services and divisional faculty meetings.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in history, English, or a related field; Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of teaching preferred.
- Ability to apply historical habits of mind to myriad content areas.
- Preference will be given to applicants with a previous background in independent schools or similar college-preparatory programs.
- Proficiency in digital educational technologies.
- Experience with Google Workspace for Education (preferred)

About the School:
Moravian Academy, located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is a PK through 12th grade coeducational college preparatory school and the ninth oldest independent school in the United States. Founded in 1742, Moravian Academy continues to be a school in motion. After a recent merger with The Swain School, Moravian Academy comprises 900 students and 200 employees. The extensive facilities are located on three campuses which together are the premier choice for independent education in the Lehigh Valley region. Each campus possesses a distinct culture and setting:
- The Downtown Campus for Grades P-8 inside the national historic landmark district that is at the heart of the City of Bethlehem;
- The Merle Smith Upper School Campus for Grades 9-12, situated on 120 acres of bucolic green expanse in Bethlehem Township, approximately 7 miles from downtown Bethlehem;

Compensation and Benefits:
Moravian Academy salaries are competitive and based on years of experience and expertise. The Academy’s generous retirement plan pays 8% of their salary when eligible employees contribute 5% of their salary through payroll reduction. Full-time employees are eligible to enroll in the Group Medical and Prescription Healthcare Program offered by the school along with a number of other benefits outlined in the Employee HandbookThe Academy financially supports the continuing professional development of its faculty and administrators. All employees are eligible for a tuition discount in the amount of 33% of the total amount of tuition, with additional fees will be paid at 100% by the employee. In addition to the tuition discount, employees may also be eligible to receive financial aid.
