- Develops an ongoing working knowledge of each individual student’s educational, social, and emotional needs.
- Effectively communicates educational and emotional needs of students to teachers on an ongoing basis.
- Effectively collaborates with teachers to integrate recommended teaching strategies into content area classes.
- Provides direct instruction to students.
- Communicates with parents to address learning concerns of students.
- Maintains and distributes updated records of student accommodations and coordinates implementation of student accommodations in content area classes.
- Facilitates need for educational updates and meetings with individual school districts, psychologists, and other professionals for psychoeducation testing, IEP meetings, etc.
- Provides individual student assessments as needed.
- Shows evidence of adapting and differentiated instruction for all students.
- Maintains complete and accurate records that are reflective of a student’s performance and growth in knowledge of metacognitive understandings.
- Develops and maintain genuine, positive, and consistent communication with parents.
- In conjunction with the learning specialist team, plans and implements the exam schedules.
- Contributes to and benefits from the campus community.
- Practices professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection, and continuous improvement.
- In addition to subject matter tutoring and teaching, this position includes significant student mentoring.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs and activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in a relevant field of study.
- Special Education Teaching Certification and/or Reading Specialist Certification
- Experience working with students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder, language processing disorder, nonverbal learning disabilities, and visual perceptual/visual motor deficits.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Solid knowledge of reading and writing instruction for students with learning differences.
- Strength in organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to serve as a positive role model.
- Knowledge of the developmental, social, and emotional needs of Upper School students.
- Experience using educational and assistive technology.
- An individual who is eager to work in a highly dynamic, energetic school setting as an integral member of a team.
- An individual who is a self-directed, proactive, problem solver who connects with students with patience and compassion.
- A plus: Level I Wilson Reading Certification
