Social and Emotional Learning Liaison, Trainee II
Responsibilities:
Conducting informal and formal assessments and interpreting the results for parents and teachers to create remedial plans to support students
Conferring and collaborating with teachers to design and implement management strategies for children in their classroom
Counseling students in both individual and group formats
Teaching weekly Social Emotional Learning Classes- teach developmentally-appropriate conflict-resolution, friendship-building, stress management, time-management, and organizational strategies to children
Supervising doctoral-level interns and externs and post-doctoral fellows
Planning and teaching graduate-level seminars for psychology students receiving training at The School
Working collaboratively with teachers to ensure that each student works to his or her full potential and serving as a resource to all faculty regarding students' social-emotional and developmental needs
Conferring regularly with other members of the Child Study Team to monitor individual students' progress
Providing services to students who have been recommended to the Child Study Team for additional and/or enhanced educational opportunities and effectively conveying these interventions to the teachers
Assisting with the integration of SEL unit skills and goals into the curriculum
Working as part of a team to collaborate with teachers, including teaching, accompanying classes on field trips, monitoring student lunch periods, etc.
Teaching mini-lessons on social-emotional issues
Managing children who are in crisis
Participating fully in The School's Integrated Projects Week
Working with the CST to help ensure all school policies, guidelines, and procedures are followed by students and parents/guardians
Fulfilling duties, responsibilities and commitments as outlined in the Working At The School at Columbia University guidebook
Helping to create an active and nurturing learning environment for all children.
Commitment to the social mission of the school which requires differentiation to meet the needs of an admirably diverse community
Qualifications/Requirements:
Successful completion of Doctoral training program at The School at Columbia University
Significant experience counseling children and families from a wide range of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
Experience with individual and group counseling, using empirically-supported methodologies
Experience with both push-in and pull-out intervention strategies
Expertise in the administration and interpretation of a wide variety of educational and psychological tests
Excellent writing and communication skills
Experience leading graduate-level seminars for doctoral-level interns and post-doctoral fellows, parents and teachers
Experience working with digital technologies and applications, particularly in educational settings;
Appreciation and advocacy for diversity within an urban school setting
Superior team-building skills
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate-level degree in School or Clinical Psychology from an APA-approved graduate program
New York State Psychologist License
Masters Degree in Social Work
Previous teaching experience
Knowledge of Spanish
Experience working within and supporting an integrated, differentiated curriculum
Experience with social and emotional curriculum development for schools
Familiarity and understanding of anti-racist and culturally competent social-emotional practices and pedagogy
