Required Education:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the visual arts and have
confidence in designing lessons that build fundamental skills allowing all students to
grow in their appreciation for and involvement in the visual arts. Embodying and
being able to communicate a passion for art is essential. An interest in and capability
for using a breadth of materials, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and
ceramics, and introductory graphic design is necessary. Candidates must be
committed to exploring ways of bringing art alive for students. A thorough
knowledge of art history is expected of any candidate. The department AP offerings
currently include both 2-D Design, 3-D Design, and Drawing portfolios.

The teaching load will involve a variety of courses taught across the curriculum (both middle and high school) including AP Art. The art teacher is also expected to participate in curriculum discussion and development of grading standards, in collaboration with colleagues. He/she will also provide active guidance and support to other programs run by the school, including Trinity Term.
The department is responsible to produce at least two major shows a year along
with smaller rotating displays throughout the year.
Apart from the various preparations necessary for producing dynamic, challenging,
and inspiring classes, all teachers have a range of duties.
These include:
• Participation in and contribution to the life of the department and broader
faculty whether through discussions about teaching, curriculum, or latest
developments in their disciplines;
• Willing and active engagement with students outside of class through open
availability for extra help, including providing an open studio twice a week,
running an advisory, and running two significant extra activities (coaching,
etc.);
• Willingness to explore and collaborate with fellow department members and
the broader faculty to design and run the school’s annual interdisciplinary
programs which bring social justice, leadership, and the academic subjects
together;
• Other duties that contribute to the smooth running of a busy and engaging
school life are expected of all faculty as assigned;
• Other expectations include:
o Manage a classroom and studio effectively and efficiently
o Collect and curate a portfolio of both personal and student work
o Submit student artwork for Scholastic Art and Writing awards
o Certification in or willingness to obtain certification in, AP Studio Art
and/or AP 3D Art
