Oakwood is seeking a full-time high school English teacher. This position is for the 2023-24 school year beginning in August 2023.
SUMMARY
Oakwood School seeks a qualified and passionate expert to join the English Department at the high school level. This full-time position would include teaching six total sections, comprised of core English classes, writing seminars, and English electives (selected based on both teacher and student interest).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the missions of the school and the English Department.
- Ability to design transformative lessons that inspire students to think about English from a fresh perspective.
- Experience and enthusiasm for connecting questions about the nature of literature to critical conversations about identity, culture, and society.
- Promote a learner-centered approach to instruction while encouraging critical engagement with texts and argumentation.
- Collaborate enthusiastically with colleagues.
- Communicate with students, parents, and colleagues in a timely and professional manner.
- Contribute talents and skills to the school community in additional capacities, including coaching and advising.
- Chaperone three social events each year.
- Fulfill campus responsibilities including break supervision, crosswalk duty, or other duties as assigned.
- Participate in Admission events, including Open House, New Student Orientation, and applicant interviews.

- Demonstrated confidence and aptitude with the use of instructional technology
- Experience teaching research and analytical writing skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- A bachelor’s degree in English or related field; advanced degree preferred
- A minimum of 5-years of previous teaching experience at the secondary level or equivalent professional experience relevant to working with high school students
- Content and pedagogical expertise
Useful/Preferred
- Valid teaching credential
- Experience advising high school students’ academic and social/emotional development
- Experience contributing to co-curricular activities like club advising or athletics coaching
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Ability to lift items up to 10 pounds and to sit and stand for 4-8 hours per day
COMPENSATION
This position has an expected salary range of $47,364.00-$95,950.00.
