Description
The Department of Physics at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a Director of Undergraduate Physics Laboratory position. We seek an innovative person to teach laboratory classes, organize lab operations, and lead the modernization of the lab curriculum. This is a non-tenure track administrative appointment starting in the fall semester 2023.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach up to 4 sections per semester of physics laboratories. This includes in-person laboratory instruction and regular teaching duties outside the classroom, including grading laboratory reports, holding weekly office hours on campus, and submitting grades to the lecture instructor by the assigned deadline.
- Perform curriculum development for introductory and upper-level physics and astronomy laboratories.
- Maintain departmental laboratory safety plans.
- Carry out other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications
- A master's degree in physics, physics education, engineering, astronomy, or other closely related fields.
- Experience teaching undergraduate physics laboratory or lecture is preferred.
- Possess strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative.
- Strong customer service orientation; positive, helpful, resourceful.
- Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances of others.
- Highly reliable, flexible and adaptable.
