The College of Letters & Science (L&S) Honors Program (https://honors.ls.wisc.edu/) aims to put into action the values of a liberal arts education and enhance the experience of highly motivated undergraduate students. L&S Honors Program advisors work as a team and serve as primary academic advisors to all undeclared L&S Honors students. Honors advisors also have an auxiliary advising role for program students who have declared a major. In addition to providing holistic individual advising services for ca. 1500 undergraduates, spanning new student orientation (SOAR) through graduation, L&S Honors advisors assist with development and assessment of advising-related programming and with administrative tasks that support the endeavors of the L&S Honors Program.

The advisor hired into this role will join the UW-Madison advising community, a strong, campus-wide network that helps students navigate their undergraduate experience. Participation in this community involves training, ongoing professional development, mentoring, and committee service. • 10% Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
• 40% Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
• 5% Implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
• 5% Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
• 5% Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
• 5% Proactively engages students as needed
• 10% Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
• 20% Other tasks necessary to meet program goals.

Required
Bachelor's Degree; preferably in a liberal arts and sciences field; MA or PhD level coursework and research experience and/or Master's degree in counseling, student personnel, social work or similar highly desirable.

Required:
- At least two years of experience working with students as an academic advisor or in a closely related field (e.g. teaching, counseling, coaching, student services)
- Demonstrated commitments to liberal arts education and a student-centered approach
- Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work as a member of the Honors Program team and collaborate with campus partners

Preferred:
- Experience working with undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary program or a research-based program
- Facilitation skills that can be used during group advising sessions, student orientation, etc.
- Experience and demonstrated success working with students from diverse backgrounds, including those historically underrepresented in higher education including first generation college students, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and BIPOC students
- Ability to work flexible hours (occasional evenings and weekend days)
