MAPCDS is a highly collaborative environment where passionate teachers guide children on a path of joyful learning and discovery through a progressive framework, largely inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Teachers here are thoughtful, curious, flexible, collaborative and self-motivated. Candidates must be comfortable building developmentally appropriate curriculum in response to children’s interests, documenting learning, and nurturing partnerships with parents and with each other. In order to stay current on theories on teaching and learning, modern brain research and best practices, our educators are expected to participate actively in professional development opportunities.
We are seeking a teacher to lead our Babies and Toddlers classes for children 6 months to 2 years old with their parent or caregiver (an open enrollment extension of our school program) as well as a 2s class, which is part of our formal school program. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in these age groups, preferably in a Reggio-inspired setting.
The Babies and Toddlers and Young 2s classes are the first experience parents have with our school and serve as an introduction to our community and guiding philosophy. The Lead Teacher responsible for these classes must have a strong foundation in child development, be comfortable having parents and caregivers in the group (in the Babies and Toddlers class) and be able to support parents in the earliest period of their parenting journey. Cultural competency, warmth and strong communication skills are essential.
Lead Teachers understand and communicate the school's vision and guiding philosophy and contribute to a positive school culture through authentic relationships with children, parents and colleagues. Specific responsibilities include:
* planning provocations and meaningful hands-on learning experiences which meet children's demonstrated interests and guiding children towards intellectual, creative and social-emotional growth
* creating a classroom community that values kindness, collaboration, creativity and social justice in developmentally appropriate ways
* actively creating documentation which makes children's learning visible, including maintaining a portfolio for each child
* recognizing parents as partners and fostering supportive, honest relationships with them
* mentoring Assistant/Associate Teachers by modeling best practices and collaborating to cultivate healthy team dynamics
We welcome the perspective of new teachers who seek to contribute to the overall quality of our school culture.
Teachers who hold a Master’s degree in education and have at least two years of experience are encouraged to apply.
MAPCDS seeks to advance the diversity of our community through both hiring and admissions and does not discriminate on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, gender, religion or sexual orientation.
To apply, send a resume and cover letter to mapds@mapc.com. Please include a professional writing sample or, if available, a sample of documentation you have created in your current position.
