Job Summary
GCE Lab School prepares high school students for success as citizens in our interconnected and multicultural world. Our model integrates subjects into thematic courses that invite students to investigate real-world questions in a collaborative, project-based learning environment. Classroom learning is augmented by weekly Field Experiences that engage students in the relevance of their academics, get them outside the classroom and connect them with their community, and ignite their curiosity about potential career paths.
The Humanities (integrated Language Arts and Social Sciences) instructor will guide students through inquiry-driven projects, provide instruction in relevant disciplines, introduce students to curricular partners, and encourage independent academic exploration. Classes are small, instruction is personalized, the culture is encouraging, and Field Experiences are inspiring.
Interdisciplinary courses require that faculty consistently stretch outside of their areas of specific expertise and learn with students. For this position we are seeking particularly candidates with knowledge and experience in history and related social sciences. Specific teaching assignments to be determined.
Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate lessons using GCE’s inquiry- and project-based digital course content
- Teach two core courses per term; refine GCE Humanities courses in collaboration with GCE’s Curriculum Design Team

- Connect lessons with current events in Chicago and in the world
- Facilitate a learning process that culminates in completed Action Projects that demonstrate learning in non-linear ways
- Assess and monitor student progress and performance
- Actively participate in GCE’s professional development program
- Collaborate with colleagues
- Embrace a non-traditional teacher role and see self as master learner who models behaviors and learning process for students
- Identify, pursue, and steward partnerships that bring curriculum to life
