Subject Tutors / Teaching Assistants (6 positions)
Subject Tutors / Teaching Assistants (TAs) work under the supervision of the Opportunity Program (OP) staff to support faculty and to teach supplementary evening class meetings. We are particularly interested in candidates from underrepresented groups that can add to the diversity and excellence of our academic program and community.
Responsibilities include: supplementing daily faculty instruction with additional evening class meetings; attending all class sessions of assigned courses; working closely with assigned faculty to ensure a clear understanding of the lessons; monitoring assigned participantsâ™ fulfillment of class assignments; implementing a regular schedule of group and individual tutoring sessions; recording and reporting weekly tutoring conducted; meeting regularly with assigned faculty to determine the proper procedures for augmenting classroom assignments; submitting written reports on participantsâ™ progress; encouraged to attend social, cultural, and recreational activities during the afternoons, evenings, and weekends; maintaining an environment conducive to learning; providing personal, social, and academic peer counseling to participants; assisting in the critical enforcement of policies, practices, and procedures; attending regular weekly staff meetings; and other duties as assigned by the OP staff.
Tutors/TAs are required to live in the residence hall for the duration of the five-week summer program, including weekends. Tutors must participate in virtual onboarding and a one-week on-campus staff training preceding the summer program. Room & Board included.
Subject tutors will be hired in the following areas:
Physics (1 position), Writing/Critical Reading (3 positions), Sociology (1 position), and Political Science (1 position).
*Writing/Critical Reading tutors will be required to submit an academic writing sample.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a Skidmore student in good academic standing (Class of 2025, 2024, 2023). Must have completed relevant coursework in academic subject area. Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a TA, tutor, or in similar academic instruction roles. Interest in the Education field. Valid driverâ™s license.

Pay Range: $15.00/hr
