The Department of Sociology at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville invites applications for a Lecturer, beginning August 1, 2022. This is a one-year position, renewable contingent on performance and funding.  We seek a scholar who can teach introductory level courses in Sociology as well as upper division inequality, race, gender, criminology or political economy courses.  Applicants will be expected to teach four undergraduate courses each in Fall and Spring semesters.  Salary is $45,000 for two semesters, paid over twelve months, plus benefits with the opportunity for promotion.  We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the Department's strength in social justice (https://sociology.utk.edu/) and whose future career can benefit from the mentoring of scholars studying globalization/political economy, criminology, critical race and ethnic studies, and/or environmental sociology. Our department offers a supportive and collegial atmosphere in which scholars make a variety of important contributions to academic research, teaching, and public sociology. Currently, UT has about 23,000 undergraduates and 6,000 graduate students and is located within easy driving distance to Asheville, Nashville, Atlanta, and the Great Smoky Mountains.  The City of Knoxville is a hidden gem with a beautiful and walkable downtown, varied nightlife, active neighborhoods, and eclectic shopping and restaurants.  The cost of living in Knoxville is 18 percent below the national average.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
