Merion Mercy Academy, an independent Catholic college preparatory school for girls grades 9-12 outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania seeks a faith-filled leader to serve as Director of Diversity Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) beginning July 2023. The Director embodies the School’s mission, is a member of the Mission, Ministry, and Belonging Department, reports to the Director of Mission, Ministry, and Belonging and works collaboratively with the Head of School.
Responsibilities
- Design the School’s DEIB initiatives in collaboration with the Head of School and the Director of Mission, Ministry and Belonging.
- Present the School’s DEIB initiatives as they relate to Catholic Social Teaching and Mercy Education Core Values to both internal and external audiences.
- Develop and implement strategies to cultivate, attract, support and retain faculty and staff who reflect and support a diverse and inclusive school community.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of actionable long- and short-term goals for culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Develop and lead the implementation of community education around DEIB issues to support building an inclusive community.
- Provide direct support for students, faculty and staff in matters of belonging.
- Address incidents of bias in the school community in alignment with school policy and in collaboration with a designated team of colleagues.
- Oversee MMA’s Affinity Group program.
- Maintain relationships with other schools and community organizations engaged in DEIB work.
- Participate in various team meetings and/or committees, including being a member of the DEIB Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Experience
Demonstrated understanding of the principles and practices of equity analysis and inclusion program development.
- Familiarity with and ability to express the relationship between DEIB, Catholic Social Teaching, and the Gospel.
- Experience in conflict resolution and ability to manage discomfort and tension that may arise when addressing racial, socio-economic and other disparities.
- Commitment to diversity and a strong interest in planning cross cultural programming.
- Proven success working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community leaders
- A history that includes speaking publicly on behalf of an organization both to large audiences and in more intimate settings.
- Experience as a proven problem-solver, critical thinker and change agent, adapting to new situations and challenges with determination and positive approaches.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in appropriate field of study, master’s degree preferred.
