The Ursuline School is a private, independent, Catholic, college preparatory girls’ school, grades 6 through 12 located in New Rochelle, New York, 20 miles north of Manhattan in a diverse, suburban community. The school was established in 1897 in the spirit of St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Order. The Ursuline School is part of a network of educators at secondary schools and colleges of the Ursuline Sisters across the United States and 36 countries. The school is accredited by the National Association of Independent Schools and the NY State Board of Regents. Start Date: 9/1/2023
Position: Full-time; Middle/High School (6 - 12)
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 commensurate with background and experience
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Teach middle and/or high school level social studies classes
- Work collaboratively and professionally with subject area, grade-level, and school-wide colleagues for curriculum planning, student support, and mentoring
- Differentiate instruction to attend to the learning and social-emotional needs of students
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administration
- Serve as a full community member by attending meetings, participating in committees, and volunteering for various duties supervising students
- Contribute constructively to all faculty discussions and continue to grow professionally (i.e. conferences, in-service training, staying current on professional literature)
Chairperson Responsibilities:
- Support the development of a standards-based, cohesive curriculum 6 - 12 that sequentially develops essential skills and competencies
- Provide oversight of general department functions
- Serve as communication liaison between department and leadership team
- Actively participate in the recruitment, hiring, and induction of teachers
- Evaluate teachers through formal and informal classroom observations
- Promote professional development and high academic standards
- Fully participate in the school community, for example by attending and supporting Admissions or Advancement efforts
Experience/Qualifications:
- Passion for teaching in Catholic, faith-based education
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of secondary teaching experience preferred
- Teacher Leadership experience preferred
