General Description
Position Overview
Adjunct Faculty, MA in Liberal Arts
Krieger School of Arts and Sciences
Advanced Academic Programs
Johns Hopkins University
Institution Description
Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) is a division of the Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. As part of the nation's first research university, AAP offers high-quality master's degrees and certificate programs at its Washington, D.C., Center, at JHU's Homewood Campus in Baltimore, Maryland, and online. AAP enrolls almost 6,000 students each academic year in over 45 programs and distinguishes itself through its intensive instructional assistance, selective admissions, and 60 dedicated full-time faculty. Tenured Krieger School faculty members serve as program chairs to oversee the academic rigor of AAP's graduate offerings. AAP's website, https://advanced.jhu.edu/, provides additional information.
The Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) division seeks non-tenure-track adjunct faculty to teach courses within the Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) program. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience teaching asynchronous online courses, working with part-time graduate students, and engaging students from diverse backgrounds.
About the MLA Program:
Established in 1962, the Johns Hopkins Master of Liberal Arts program has gained national recognition for the quality of its teaching and the breadth of its course offerings. The MLA thrives on the curiosity, passion, and diversity of its students. The Johns Hopkins Master of Liberal Arts is a unique, non-traditional graduate degree. Whereas most graduate programs ask students to become more and more specialized, the MLA expects them to both broaden and deepen their educational experience. MLA students interact with professors and one another in a stimulating online learning environment in an asynchronous format that is compatible with students' work schedules and time zones. We are looking for faculty who can teach one or more of the following courses:
AS.450.631 Western Theatre History: The Dynamic Interplay of Social, Economic and Cultural Forces
AS.450.652 Modern Black Political Thought
AS. 450.694 Philosophy of Beauty
AS.450.673 Monstrosity & Metamorphosis: Imagining Animals in Early Art & Literature
AS.450.700 "The Souls of Black Folk": Evolving Conceptions of Leadership in African American Literature and Culture
AS.450.710 The Mind of Leonardo Da Vinci
AS.450.717 School and Society: Education Reimagined, Possibilities Disclosed
AS.450.766 Deconstructing Capitalism
AS.450.774 Existentialism: Philosophy and Social Critique
