Position Summary
The Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering at The University of Alabama invites applications for non-tenure track renewable contract research faculty positions to work in conjunction with the Alabama Transportation Institute (ATI). Exceptional applicants are sought that have interests and experience in conducting research in the following transportation-related areas:
• Safety, equity, and accessibility.
• Application of advanced transportation technologies.
• Electric vehicle charging policy and planning.
Candidates will be considered for a one-year non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor position subject to annual renewal.
Detailed Position Information
The Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering at The University of Alabama invites applications for non-tenure track renewable contract research faculty positions to work in conjunction with the Alabama Transportation Institute (ATI). Exceptional applicants are sought that have interests and experience in conducting research in the following transportation-related areas:
• Transportation safety with particular focus on data analytics, machine learning applications, and Highway Safety Manual implementation.
• Transportation equity and accessibility, especially in the context of rural areas and small towns.
• Application of advanced transportation technologies including Intelligent Transportation Systems and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.
• Electric vehicle charging policy and planning, especially in the context of rural areas and small towns.
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must meet all the following required qualifications:
• Applicants must have a doctorate (Ph.D.) in civil engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong track record of and significant potential for producing high impact scholarly articles in a broad array of academic journals.
• Ability to lead and participate in proposals to generate extramural funding.
• Ability to build and maintain interdisciplinary collaborations, especially with social science researchers will be highly competitive.
Preferred Qualifications
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
• Post-doctoral or other similar post-graduate experience.
