Job Description
The Boston University School of Social Work MSW (BUSSW) Program is committed to transformative education. Per a recently completed strategic plan, our primary goal is to be a global model in social, economic, racial, gender, and climate justice transformation by 2050. We develop dynamic social work leaders committed to advancing equity, inclusion, and social justice. The BUSSW Online, Off- Campus, and Hybrid Programs enroll nearly 700 students living and working throughout the United States.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Senior Assistant Dean provides vision, leadership, and oversight for the BUSSW Online, Off-Campus, and Hybrid Programs including their implementation and growth. They collaboratively develop comprehensive processes and strategies by examining non-traditional graduate education trends; evaluating effective online and non-traditional education practices; and formulating policies and procedures to ensure part-time student retention, satisfaction, and program completion. This includes providing administrative management for the Online, Off-Campus and Hybrid programs through ongoing program development, training, mentoring, consultation, and evaluation of the MSW programs and digital education. Oversight of budgetary activities, develop yearly budget and income projections, monitor expenditures, and negotiate affiliation agreements with host sites across the US. This position provides administrative leadership through supervision of a large team, including the Assistant Director of Online Program and Off-Campus and Hybrid Program Directors. The Sr. Assistant Dean also oversees BUSSW Student Services across all MSW programs (Full and part-time; Charles River, Off-Campus, Hybrid, and Online). In this capacity, the Sr. Assistant Dean develops, implements, and evaluates effective strategies to ensure that BUSSW is an inclusive community for an intellectually, culturally, and economically diverse population of students. They support student success; identify challenges and barriers to retention and graduation for part-time students across platforms; and implement academic and supportive success systems to increase retention and graduation rates across platforms. The Sr. Assistant Dean collaborates with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA), SSW Department Chairs, and the MSW Program Director of Inclusive Pedagogy on course scheduling, hiring, evaluation, and training of instructors and online program facilitators. They make course, instructor, and facilitator hiring recommendations. Additionally, they engage and collaborate with University Departments including BU Virtual, Graduate Affairs, and Office of Legal Counsel to ensure program development and that program requirements are met.
Required Skills
- Masters degree in social work, 8+ years of post-MSW experience in administrative leadership with specific experience administering Online and Off-Campus programs strongly preferred.
- Experience teaching at a masters level in online delivery is strongly recommended.
- Demonstrated success in leadership and innovation in faculty recruitment, training, and evaluation in social work education.
- Successful candidates will have extensive knowledge of digital education in social work, demonstrated ability to manage large teams, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, and students.
- Some evening and weekend work required.
