The College is comprised of faculty across four departments with active research agendas. Altogether, the College of Education has $53 million in active grant funding from federal funding agencies (e.g., NIH, OSEP, IES). The College of Education offers: a history of collaboration with schools to conduct research; technology support and infrastructure; and doctoral programs wherein students assist with research.

The Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership (EPOL) in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor in Instructional Design, Technology, and Organization (IDTO). This is a specialized, non-tenure track faculty position. The Teaching Assistant Professor will contribute to coursework focusing on the design and development of technology-enriched and -enabled learning systems for learning and performance goals in workplace contexts, broadly defined. IDTO courses aim to develop capable and nimble professionals to lead efforts in response to workplace and workforce development needs.

EPOL includes graduate concentrations in Diversity and Equity in Education, Educational Administration and Leadership, Higher Education, Human Resource Development, Global Studies in Education, Learning Design and Leadership, Philosophy of Education, History of Education, and Social Science and Educational Policy. We seek applicants who can contribute across multiple concentration areas, with teaching and research expertise in the following areas: instructional and training system design; learning technologies; development of and innovation in learning systems and technology-enabled and -enriched learning; and management and leadership in instructional design and technology. We also welcome applicants with a broad experiential base in IDTO in various organizational contexts.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to make the following contributions to the undergraduate and graduate programs within EPOL and the College of Education:

Design and teach courses in IDTO, with an emphasis on the integration of theory, research, and application in a variety of organizational and institutional learning contexts within private and public sectors.

Contribute to EPOL-wide teaching and advising activities.

Advise graduate students.

Engage in research activities, broadly defined, related to IDTO and allied areas of scholarship.

Collaborate with Department and College faculty on key strategic initiatives.

Serve on Department, College of Education, and Campus committees, and fulfill various other assignments consistent with an academic role.

Play an active role in IDTO professional associations.

Qualifications:

An earned doctorate from an accredited institution, with an emphasis on instructional design and technology in the context of adult learning and Human Resource Development, or closely related fields.

Evidence of experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in instructional design and technology in the context of workplaces, organizations, and adult learning.

A thorough understanding of instructional design and technology philosophy, theories, and curriculum.

Keen interest in advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in EPOL.

A record of scholarly productivity in the field of instructional design and technology, or closely related fields, appropriate for a teaching assistant professor appointment.

Experience in instructional design and technology practice through professional engagement.

Interest and experience in effective online teaching.

The ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups at the university level as well as in the public and private sectors.

Salary: The salary is commensurate with experience and title.

Starting Date: Anticipated start date is January 1, 2024
