Teach four courses per year in stage direction and/or theatre-making, as well as courses in Theatre for Social Change, Acting or Dramatic Literature. Primary responsibilities include participating in a six semester pre-professional curriculum for the MFA directing program; teaching beginning and intermediate direction and acting or dramatic literature for the BA degree; directing departmental productions; mentoring and advising students; recruiting and participating in departmental and university service responsibilities. Possibility of providing leadership for our Certificate in Social Justice and the Performing Arts when the current departmental leader retires. Regular professional creative work and/or research/publication in preparation for tenure and promotion is expected.

Start Date: August 16, 2023.

The University of Iowa has been a pioneer in all aspects of theatrical production. Degree programs are BA and MFA, with specializations in acting, design, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, and stage management. The department has a special interest in the development of new plays, and each year produces over 20 new works in its season. Students are trained to respond to the needs of new plays and performance while grounding themselves actively and creatively in theatrical principles. We have a newly formed Certificate in Performing Arts and Social Justice. The certificate is offered in collaboration with Dance, Music, and Gender and Women's Sexuality Studies.
