Sage Ridge School humanities teachers have a deep understanding of and an appreciation for teaching writing, literature, and critical literary analysis. They are a team player with excellent organization, communication, and time management skills, and have adesire to work with the age group of students to which they are assigned.
- Deliver an engaging, rigorous, student-centered curriculum in alignment with other faculty
- Plan and sequence curriculum both vertically and horizontally. Plan and deliver conceptual units and lesson plans that align with throughline questions centered on developing understanding within the course and connected to classes in other subjects
- Deliver thought provoking, student-centered lessons that develop students’ analytical, communication, reading, and writing skills
- Deliver an instructional program supportive of constructivist/inquiry based practices. Incorporate intelligent use of educational technology in teaching and learning
- Develop, utilize and embed best practice assessment approaches, including the use of rubrics, grade moderation and other student-centered practices
- Provide for differentiated instruction for students of varying engagement and readiness
- Embrace collaborative professional learning, including active participation in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Embrace a dynamic, fast-paced environment that is subject to nimble changes in support of students needs
- Champion a culture of learning among faculty and staff, including a focus on best practice pedagogical approaches as aligned with age groups and child/student development
- Demonstrate goodwill and support with all students and staff
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach two Grade 6 English (Introduction to Literary Analysis) classes and two Grade 6 World Geography classes
- Beyond classroom responsibilities - Advisory, Club(s), duties, periodic events outside regular hours
- Commitment to Sage Sessions and Outdoor Education
- Professional communication with parents, wider community promoting student growth and history program
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in and beyond the school
- Other duties as assigned by Head of School
- Creativity, enthusiasm, flexibility, leadership, patience, persistence and embodiment of our Pillars
- Innovative mindset - curious and courageous in implementation of high standards
- Ability to express one’s viewpoints with clarity and precision; to listen with openness and not let disagreement turn into conflict; collaborate effectively and with purpose
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent coursework and three years of full-time teaching or a Master's degree and one year of full-time teaching.
