Cary Academy seeks a Middle School English & Social Studies Teacher dedicated to meeting and nurturing the unique developmental needs of younger adolescent learners, sharing a passion for teaching in engaging and meaningful ways that build on the students’ natural curiosity and foster interactive, participatory and discovery learning. Serves as an advisor, developing personal connections with a group of student advisees. Contributes to the school’s rich extracurricular program and participates actively in the life of our learning community.

THE POSITION
Teaches a standard load of classes in the Middle School (8 contact periods) in a manner consistent with the mission and educational philosophies of Cary Academy.
- Provides personal and academic guidance to a group of student advisees, if assigned to do so.
- Leads and/or supports co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including a Middle School club and Flex Day opportunities.
- Engages actively in equity and anti-racism work as part of the school’s commitment to inclusion and justice.
- Is readily available to students for extra help and guidance outside of class.
- Communicates effectively with parents and responds to concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Supervises students before and after school and during break as assigned.
- Eats lunch with students each day at an assigned lunch table.
- Supports students and advisees by attending a variety of student performances, events and competitions each year.
- Provides occasional substitute coverage for another faculty member’s class as needed.
- Shares responsibility for transporting students to school activities by occasionally driving a 14-passenger school activity bus.
- Participates in grade level trips.
- Seeks out and engages in ongoing professional development.
- Completes all required administrative and operational tasks in a timely manner per school operating policies and procedures.
- Performs other functions as assigned in support of school operations.
