The Department of Business Administration in the Williams School of Commerce, Economics & Politics at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Business Administration with a specialization in organizational behavior. The appointment may begin either January 1 or July 1, 2024.
The person in this position will teach an introductory undergraduate course in management and organizational behavior. We seek candidates who are also able to develop and teach topical electives in areas such as leadership, teams, organizational theory, artificial intelligence, intercultural management, inclusiveness in the workplace, or other subfields that could serve as the basis for undergraduate business courses. We also value candidates who have industry experience, though this is not a requirement.
This position requires a strong commitment to excellence in teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. We are particularly interested in candidates who value interdisciplinary studies and can integrate their course content with the liberal arts. Candidates who can demonstrate expertise or experience with diverse pedagogical techniques are likewise encouraged to apply.
The school calendar consists of two 13-week terms, one in the fall and one in the winter, along with our unique?4-week spring term. The regular teaching load is 5 courses per year. New hires teach a 2-2 load in their first year.
In addition to a passion for innovative teaching, we seek candidates who demonstrate the capacity to publish scholarly research in business and related fields, and who are enthusiastic about making service contributions to the W&L community. To support faculty research agendas, the university has a generous five-year sabbatical cycle as well as a pre-tenure research leave program.

W&L’s Business Administration department offers an undergraduate major in Business Administration and supports minors in Entrepreneurship and Data Science. In addition to this new line, we are also hiring two tenure-track faculty in Ethics, Business, and Society for the 2024-2025 academic year, with several additional searches underway in other departments within the Williams School.
Lexington (population 7,000) is a warm, welcoming, and historic town located between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains. Lexington is 40 minutes from Staunton, VA (home of the American Shakespeare Center), one hour from Charlottesville, VA, and three hours southwest of Washington, D.C.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Management, Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Industrial-Organizational Psychology) and teaching experience in management/organizational behavior are required. ABD candidates must present evidence that their dissertation will be defended by July 1, 2024.
