Georgetown Law's Center for Innovations in Community Safety (CICS) envisions an equitable and effective system of community safety in which communities are empowered and engaged to create a world where everyone can work, live, and play. CICS leverages unparalleled expertise and experience to implement and evaluate cutting-edge, evidence-informed programs that build safer communities through individual interventions and systems-level change. CICS works to transform and end overreliance on policing and to mitigate the devastating impacts of racial and ethnic discrimination and economic inequality in the criminal legal system. CICS teaches, researches, writes, and convenes stakeholders to increase understanding of and support for innovative approaches to community safety.
Job Overview
The Senior Program Associate (SPA) is responsible for advancing the programmatic activities of CICS.
They work collaboratively with CICS staff, faculty directors, University colleagues, and community partners to conceive of, develop, execute, and manage a portfolio of complex projects within one or more of CICS's priority program areas, which are currently: Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE), Police for Tomorrow Fellowship (PfT), hospital-based violence intervention, and expanding first response.
Depending on need, the SPA's project portfolio may include operational innovations and support, management of relationships with key partners, personnel management, communications, training and facilitation, and/or policy development.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the ABLE Director, the Senior Program Associate has work interactions that include:
- Close coordination and collaboration with CICS Directors and other CICS staff
- Close coordination and collaboration with GU/GULC's officers of Financial Affairs, Human Resources, Development, Communications, IST, Events, General Counsel, and the office of Centers & Institutes
- Close coordination and collaboration with outside partners (e.g., law firms, law enforcement agencies, funders, social psychologists, civil rights advocates, researchers) in CICS's key programmatic areas
- Collaboration with non-CICS Georgetown University faculty, both in and outside the law school
- Collaboration with other program staff in the areas of police reform, the criminal system, and policies or programs designed to improve community safety
- Develop and maintain relationships with law enforcement, violence intervention, and other community safety-oriented agencies and advocates
Requirements and Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree [note: appropriate professional experience may be substituted for an undergraduate degree]
- 3 to 5 years of experience (including academic) working in project or program management - preference for experience working in criminal legal system reform, police reform, violence prevention, first response, or other related fields
- A demonstrated commitment to reducing the harms of the criminal legal system
- Exemplary collaborative capacity
- Excellent planning, organizational, creative and critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Ability to work independently and proactively manage a significant workload
- A demonstrated commitment to systemic and interpersonal anti-oppression, especially anti-racism
- Availability and willingness to travel as required
