Departmental Overview
The Division of Equity & Inclusion provides leadership and accountability to resolve systemic inequities for all members of UC Berkeley through engaged research, teaching, and public service, and by expanding pathways for access and success and promoting a healthy and engaging campus climate. The division's work encompasses direct service, programmatic support, and advice and consultation across all campus communities including faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, and staff.

Responsibilities
- Communications campaign management:
- Working with the program managers, campus communicators and campus leaders, to identify, design and implement communications campaigns related to campus DEIBJ initiatives.
- Manages long-and short-term communications campaigns in collaboration with colleagues, campus leaders and cross-campus partners to reach campaign objectives.
- Provides leadership on representing campus priorities of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and justice.
- Collaboration and partnership development:
- Build relationships with colleagues across the campus who are experts in social media, strategic communications internal communications, executive communications, change management and other key areas.
- Have the ability to organize and leverage these relationships to meet the wider communications goals of the campus DEIBJ initiatives.
- Management of student workers:
- Selects, trains, guides, directs, evaluates, and, as required, takes corrective action with student staff.
- Reviews, edits and approves work of student staff.
- Develops student workers' understanding of communication campaign priorities.
- Seeks opportunities to grow student workers' skill sets and offers opportunities for professional development.
- Other comms initiative work as assigned.
- Ability to navigate and communicate and show leadership in complex issues related to race, ethnicity, disability, and other diverse issues.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Advanced judgment, analytical and decision-making skills and advanced political acumen.
- Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long- and short-term strategic communications plans.
- Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long and short-term strategic communication plans.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.
Education/Training:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the higher education environment, including issues, audiences and unique challenges.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $150,000.00 - $160,000.00.
- This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.
- This is a hybrid position, eligible for 50% remote capability.
