Departmental Overview
The School of Information (I School) advances knowledge and practice everywhere humans interact with digital technologies. Through interdisciplinary research and teaching we are committed to expanding access to information and to improving its usability, reliability, and credibility while preserving security and privacy. Our faculty conduct research in human-computer interaction (HCI), security and privacy, applied data science, and technology in developing regions.
We currently offer three professional master's degrees and an academic doctoral degree. Our Master of Information Management and Systems (MIMS) program trains students for careers as information professionals and emphasizes project-based learning. Our Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) program is an online degree designed for working professionals with career goals in the emerging field of data science and is also offered in a 5th Year track for recent UC Berkeley graduates. The newly launched Master of Information and Cybersecurity (MICS), also offered online, offers a holistic approach to cybersecurity and prepares students for professional careers in cybersecurity. Our Ph.D. program equips scholars to develop solutions and shape policies that influence how people seek, use, and share information.
The Student Affairs Coordinator serves a key role by providing a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities for the school. Provides assistance with event planning (such as Orientation and Commencement), assist students with academic advising needs, manages communication/announcements with students, and ensures that all academic operations and processes are managed throughout the academic year.

Responsibilities
25% Academic Advising:
- Applying professional Student Services concepts, provides a full range of student services to graduate students in programs at the School of Information.
- Delivers advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress, major requirements, and course selection, schedule, and sequencing.
- Serves as the first point of contact for student advising through walk-in and scheduled appointments, email, phone, and video conferencing as relevant.
- Assists students with identifying, navigating, and accessing student resources and campus services.
- Helps provide traditional campus resources and services to nontraditional students in online master's programs.
25% Events: Plans and implements the following events, working with relevant faculty, staff and students to manage and maintain each event:
- Lead coordinator for the Capstone Showcases for online degree programs (MIDS and MICS), up to three times a year (Spring, Summer and Fall).
- Assist and support with new student orientation planning for all degree programs.
- Assist and support with the planning of Immersion and other school wide programs throughout the year.
25% Data and Process Management: Primary coordinator for the following processes each semester:
- Working with campus departments, manage degree audit and conferral for I School degree programs.
- Advise and assist with re-enrollment applications for online degree programs, up to three times a year, including communication with students on process, managing the online application forms, updating student records, and other follow-ups as needed.
- Advise and assist Sr Director of Student Affairs on the following for each semester: Incomplete grades, academic probation, and other ongoing student performance issues.
- Advise and assist with the I School Data Science Certificate, providing support with the application, student communication, and certificate confirmation process.
20% Student Communication:
- Primary manager of main Student Affairs email inbox.
- Reviews, assigns and coordinates student requests from the Student Affairs inbox to relevant staff members, arrange follow ups and meeting appointments as necessary.
5% Development:
- Develop and participate in staff development, including working on special programs as assigned, attending classes which will enhance expertise in job areas, serve on departmental and campus-wide committees as appropriate, and participate in activities that enhance the campus community and/or larger community to further University service.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Experience counseling full time and part time graduate students.
- Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
- Strong preference for experience working with students in an online degree-granting program.
- Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
- Interpersonal skills. Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Skills in service orientation, active listening, critical thinking.
- Ability in problem identification, reasoning.
- Ability to multi-task, verbal communication, written communication, organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases.
- Experience in supporting online degree programs preferred.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $54,400 - $73,100, not to exceed $91,800. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits.
