The department of political science at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position in American Politics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin in the fall of 2024. We seek an Americanist who focuses on political institutions, public policy and/or political economy. We welcome any substantive focus, with a special interest in scholarship related to inequality, poverty, class, gender, immigration, or populism. The successful candidate should be able to teach an introductory course on Congress as well as more advanced courses in the candidate’s areas of interest. All Colgate faculty are also expected to participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The teaching load is five courses (or their equivalent) over two semesters.
Please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., statement of teaching philosophy and student evaluations of teaching), a writing sample (30 pages single-spaced or 60 pages double-spaced), and three letters of recommendation. Completion of PhD is required before, or shortly after, the date of hire.
