Departmental Overview
The University of California Botanical Garden (UCBG) is a living museum that features one of the most diverse plant collections in the United States. Established in 1890, the Garden's 34 acres contain over 12,000 taxas and more than 20,000 accessions (including many rare and endangered species) from all over the world arranged by region. The Mission Statement for the UCBG is 'to develop and maintain a diverse living collection of plants to support teaching and worldwide research in plant biology, further the conservation of plant diversity, and promote public understanding and appreciation of plants and the natural environment.'

Responsibilities
- Execute the rental of the facilities process from client inquiry and contract initiation through set up of facility and payment processing.
- Supervise students and temporary personnel serving as security and monitoring events.
- Manage all telephone, internet, and rental prospect drop-in inquiries regarding facility rentals, responding accurately, knowledgeably, and courteously to all inquiries.
- Personally show and effectively sell facility rental options to prospective renters.
- Responsible to work without management on weekend day and/or UC holiday.
- Support the lead rental coordinator in tasks that include:
- Scheduling,
- Event support materials (e.g. signage),
- Facility/equipment maintenance and procurement,
- Online contracts and payment systems,
- Vendor facilitation,
- Marketing activities.
- Act as backup for temporary Rental personnel as well as other Visitor Experience staff with their specific responsibilities if required.
Special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic concepts and principles of building and maintaining effective relations with a variety of alumni and other key constituencies.
- Basic knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the institution, its mission, vision, goals, achievements, policies, and infrastructure.
- Organizational skills including skill to meet prescribed deadlines; event planning skills.
- Written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including tact and political acumen to effectively represent the institution.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Applicable computer skills.
- For staff in Government/Community Relations: basic knowledge of public policy and the legislative process.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.30 - $30.30.
- This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
