Departmental Overview
The University of California Botanical Garden (UCBG) is a living museum that features one of the most diverse plant collections in the United States. Established in 1890, the Garden's 34 acres contain over 12,000 taxas and more than 20,000 accessions (including many rare and endangered species) from all over the world arranged by region. The Mission Statement for the UCBG is 'to develop and maintain a diverse living collection of plants to support teaching and worldwide research in plant biology, further the conservation of plant diversity, and promote public understanding and appreciation of plants and the natural environment.'

Responsibilities
- Manages and implements the facilities rental program, from communication with clients (from a variety of constituencies), creation of contracts, overseeing event needs and staffing, working with campus parking and outside vendors, through to payment and verification of expenses.
- Provide budget reports to management.
- Manage telephone, internet, and rental prospect drop-in inquiries regarding facility rentals, responding accurately, knowledgeably, and courteously to all inquiries.
- Personally, show and effectively sell facility rental options to prospective renters.
- Provide timely, professional communication updates with clients through the rental process as needed.
- Responsible to work without management on one regular weekend day.
- Act as backup on occasion for visitor experience staff with their specific responsibilities when needed.
- Special projects as assigned.
- Supervise Assistant Rental Coordinator.
- Recruit, train and supervise temporary personnel serving as security and monitoring events.
- May work with student employees.
- Research and gather relevant data from the field/rental market to inform unit strategic plans, including pricing, offerings, amenities, marketing and client opportunities, etc., keeping management informed as necessary and providing input as required.
- Evaluate effectiveness of the program and make recommendations.
- Engage with campus groups/committees to be up-to-date on issues related to events.
- Address the needs and cost-effective modifications related to maintenance of rental facilities, furniture, and equipment, making recommendations and working with associated support staff to complete tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with alumni, internal and key constituencies.
- Thorough knowledge of the campus and the Garden, its mission, goals, objectives, programs, achievements, infrastructure and issues of concern.
- Thorough written, verbal and interpersonal communications, tact and political acumen to effectively represent the campus.
- Thorough research, analytical and critical thinking skills, including sound judgment and decision-making skills and skill to correctly identify real and potential problems, advising management as required, and proposing effective strategic resolutions.
- Skill in project management, including event planning and meeting deadlines.
Education/Training:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $64,400.00 -$75,000.00.
- This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.
