The Department of Dance at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte invites applications for a
full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to start August 2024. The successful candidate must
teach all levels of ballet and pointe technique, from anatomically-informed and critical
perspectives that support the diverse student body served by UNC Charlotte. The successful
candidate must choreograph new work and/or restage ballets for student dancers. As a faculty
member at an R2 research institution, our new colleague must show promise of a distinguished
research agenda, and be prepared to contribute to the department's mission, curriculum
development, faculty governance, and the administrative life of the department, college, and
university.
Required qualifications:
● Terminal degree in Dance or related area.
● Demonstrated skill in teaching all levels of ballet and pointe techniques from an
anatomically-informed perspective.
● Demonstrated skill in ballet teaching that engages critical practices in the field, serves a
diverse student body in a university of access, and contributes to the department's
mission.
● Demonstrated ability to contextualize ballet in relation to other dance forms.
● Demonstrated ability to choreograph and/or restage ballets for student concerts.
● Demonstrated ability to contribute to an additional area of the Dance curriculum, such as
(but not limited to) creative process/choreography courses, ballet pedagogy, dance
history and studies, dance science, or an additional movement practice.
● Research agenda that shows promise of successful trajectory toward tenure and
promotion at UNC Charlotte.
As a full-time faculty member, the successful candidate must: ● Maintain successful teaching and creative/research activities with continued engagement in the profession; ● Participate in curriculum development, faculty governance and the administrative life of the department, COA+A, the university, and in Charlotte-based communities; ● Demonstrate commitment to collaboration and have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; and ● Be reviewed annually; along with third year reappointment review and sixth year tenure/promotion review.
Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
