Position Summary:
The Special Events Manager will be responsible for creating experiences that appropriately and consistently promote interaction, participation and recognition of prospects, donors, alumni and special guests of the University. Oftentimes, the University's first point of contact with an alumni or a donor is at an event, and the Manager will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of excellence. The Manager will lead overall event strategy for the advancement division, and establish protocols to ensure consistent success.
The Special Events Manager will plan, execute, and evaluate all special and social events sponsored by University Advancement division and the departments within the division. The Manager will at times manage events in partnership with other University departments and divisions and will be expected to collaborate as needed with other areas on campus. Advancement events can range from small receptions to large gatherings. Some events happen both on and off campus, and periodic regional travel is expected. Events may also happen before or after a major University event. The Manager should have a strong knowledge of event design and execution to ensure that special guests feel welcome and appreciated throughout their interaction with UNC Asheville. The Events Manager is charged with ensuring that all guests have a positive impression of the University in participating in the event.
Events include but are not limited to alumni events, donor events, student events, community events, and University-wide events. The position will require diligent oversight of event/program planning and execution including scheduling, design, setup, marketing, catering, and staffing as well as post event follow-up.
The Manager will play an important role in helping their colleagues meet University Advancement team goals and objectives.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skill :
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skill :
Bachelor's degree and three to five years of event planning and implementation experience in a complex setting like a university or corporation.
Proven track record of creating unique and memorable positive experiences for event guests
Experience with Raiser's Edge NXT events module is a plus.
Some graphic design experience, creative skills, and an artful eye for drafting invitations, designing event programs, and event signage is a plus.
An understanding of the Mailchimp newsletter/invitation platform is preferred.
