Position: The Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign is seeking a faculty member at the assistant, associate or full professor rank in computer science education. This is a full-time, nine month, tenure-track appointment.
Position Description: The Department of Curriculum & Instruction possesses an outstanding reputation in the areas of curriculum development, teacher education, and digital learning. We seek candidates who will join the College of Education to engage in scholarship, discovery and innovation to provide transformative learning experiences to have an impact on society.
We seek candidates with expertise in computer science education (grades 5 - 12). Candidates will undertake a program of research that will lead to an outstanding and sustained record of scholarship and external funding. Teaching assignments will include in-person and online courses related to computer science teaching methods for the middle grades and secondary licensure program and the Secondary Teaching Endorsement in Computer Science, as well as graduate courses in computer science education. Candidates will have opportunities to participate in graduate program development in on campus and online environments and in the recruitment and training of graduate students.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in computer science education, computer science, educational technology, learning sciences or other relevant fields related to computer science education is required. Evidence of scholarly activity/potential is required. Candidates must have an established record of research, teaching, and service to meet the University's requirements for tenure at the appropriate rank.
Preferred Experience: Computer science teaching experience in middle or secondary school grades. Commitment to broadening participation in computing, and an understanding of, and experience applying, equity-based, culturally-supporting and/or culturally-relevant computer science pedagogical approaches. Research and publications related to the teaching or learning of computer science. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teacher preparation and working with diverse populations, prior university teaching experience, and the use of technology for instructional delivery, including online.
Responsibilities: Carry out an active program of research and actively pursue external funding. Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate-level course work related to computer science education. Participate in the ongoing computer science education teacher training programs. Advise and recruit master's and doctoral students in education. Provide leadership and service at the national, state, and local levels related to computer science education.
Salary and Starting Date: Salary will be commensurate with experience. The proposed starting date is August 16, 2024.
