The Department comprises 26 internationally and nationally recognized tenure-track and specialized faculty from racially and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are committed to seeking deep interconnections among theory, research, and practice. Research anchors our work at the graduate level, with our intellectual contributions organized into four program areas: 1) Curriculum Research, Early Childhood Education, Aesthetics, and Teacher Education (CREATE); 2) Digital Environments for Learning, Teaching & Agency (DELTA); 3) Language and Literacy (L&L); and 4) Mathematics, Science, and Engineering (MSE). At the undergraduate level, we focus on global and local concerns of pre- and in-service teacher learning, early childhood, elementary, and secondary education, and our faculty contribute significantly to the College's licensure and non-licensure degree programs.
The College of Education provides strong support for research through the Bureau of Educational Research, and opportunities abound for collaboration within the College as well as campuswide, focused on both school- and community-based learning settings. Faculty in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction are funded by the National Science Foundation, Institute of Education Sciences, and the U. S.
